USDA grants funds for rural energy projects - Denver Business Journal:

“The demand for energy is rising everu year and our funding program will help agriculture producers and rurapsmall businesses,” said Eric Vigil, New Mexico Rural Development’zs water and environmental programs acting state director. Vigil said renewable such as wind, solar, biomases and geothermal will qualify underthe program’ss directives. “The program is [also] geared toward energy efficiency and we expect to find interest from applicants who want to initiatre a variety ofdifferent projects,” Vigil added. Some energty efficient initiatives that would qualify includew installing wind turbines andsolarr panels.
Establishing anaerobic digesters and creatingmore energy-efficienft agricultural production by upgrading windows, insulation, boilers and lightinv also will qualify under the terms of the program. Especiallyy important this year, according to officials, is a new sectionj that finances feasibilitystudiexs — which can includd money for meteorological towers. These “met towers” help locatw the strongest wind area so that wind turbines can be most advantageously The applications require a completed energy assessment orenergt audit. Unlike previous years, the cost of the audit or assessmentt will be paid for bythe government, shoul d the applicant be successful.
