Stimulus funds granted to UB researcher - Business First of Buffalo:

The two-year grant from the will support several laboratorhy positions while accelerating research into the relationship betweeh impulsivity anddrug abuse. Principal investigator on the studyu isJerry Richards, an exper t in psychobiology and research scientist at UB’sx Research Institute on Addiction. He is also researchj associate professor in the department of psychologyu and assistant professor in the department of pharmacologgand toxicology.
In a preparefd release, Richards said the grant quickens the pace of hisresearchj program, enabling answers about the relationship between the euphoric consequences of drug takingh and the often negative consequences associated with drug The grant will support research opportunitiezs for UB students and yount scientists, he said. “This award is creatinv new jobs, providing educationak opportunities for students and young scientistsw and providing funds for purchasingf a variety oflaboratory supplies,” Richardd said.
The research team includex neuroscientistAlexis Thompson, as co-investigator, a research scientist at RIA and research associate professodr in the department of psychology. The Recovery Act includedc $10.4 billion for NIH, including $8.2 billionm for scientific research priorities.
